A multiple-year pilot project to establish a viable way of carbonization technologies use for on-site production of biochar and wood vinegar to make Kenya's rain-fed agriculture more resilient to drought. Biochar and wood vinegar are to be produced from local unutilized biomass (such as selected agricultural and forestry residue) by local public, private and academic sectors after technology transfer and will be promoted by the government(s) in the context of Climate Smart Agriculture.Because of the pandemic of COVID-19, we have decided to decline the project. |

In this project, the following activities were conducted as a basic survey to design the pilot project design: (1) biomass identification, (2) biochar experiment, (3) carbonization trial with locally-available biomass, (4) biochar market analysis and (5) examination of local fabrication level, among others. |
